Fresh efforts are being made to make sure rape and domestic violence cases get to court in the South.

At the moment only one in three actually make it to be heard by a judge and jury.

Today a consultation opens for the Crown Prosecution Service to see what they could be doing better.

It's been revealed compensation's been cut for some rape victims who'd been drinking before they were attacked.

In the past year fourteen people have received less money.

It's because of a clause that says awards can be reduced if alcohol consumption gave rise to the injury.


Police in Southampton are calling for any information that could help them identify the people that started a mass brawl in the city.

More than 18 people are thought to have been involved in the fight that police say involved spanners, metal bars and wooden sticks.

One man was injured.


There's anger at plans for water bills in Hampshire to go up again.

Yesterday it was revealed we face an increase of alomst £50 on top of inflation in just one year.

That could mean that the average household could see their annual water and sewerage bill go from £352 to £401.23 plus inflation.

Local politicians say they are outraged and promise to call on Ofwat to intervene.


New figures show inflation's soaring.

The Consumer Prices Index increased to four-point-four per cent in July.

That's up point-six per cent on the previous month, and is more than double the Government's target.

It's a further headache for the Bank of England, which will find it harder yet to cut interest rates.


An inquest's being opened later into the deaths of a British couple shot on their honeymoon in Antigua.

Catherine Mullany, a thirty-one-year-old doctor, was killed instantly in the hotel attack.

Her physiotherapist husband Ben died later after being flown to Morriston Hospital in Swansea.

More than thirty people have been arrested in connection with the shootings, yet no-one's been charged.


And a third of parents say they feel unable to help their children with maths homework.

A study found many have little or no confidence with numbers.

Two thirds rely on a calculator to work out sums.

Olympics now and a phone call's at the centre of a row between Britain's Olympic prodigy Tom Daley and his diving partner.

Southampton's Blake Aldridge, who's twelve years older than the boy of fourteen, is reported to have spoken on his mobile as the pair competed in Beijing yesterday.

They went on to finish last in the final of the ten metre synchro, with Aldridge claiming Daley was feeling the pressure.

hampshire's Kevin Pietersen says his England cricket team can win back the Ashes next year.

Pietersen's first game as England skipper ended in a six-wicket victory over South Africa yesterday.
